Bison burgers

During a recent trip to Montana, we stopped at Ted’s Montana Grill where we tasted bison for the first time. Some of us had the burgers while others had the ribs. We all agreed that we liked the taste of bison better than beef: it is much leaner and healthier. So, when we found some lean ground bison at Costco, we were inspired to make bison burgers with a Mediterranean twist. We are happy to say that they turned out pretty good and that we will make them again.

Bison burgers

Recipe type: Meat
Bison burgers with a Mediterranean twist
Ingredients
  • 2½ lbs premium lean ground bison
  • 1 egg
  • 2 small onions minced
  • 4 cloves of garlic minced
  • 2 Tbs. fresh oregano
  • 2 Tbs. fresh basil
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. pepper
  • Feta cheese (optional)
Instructions
  1. Preheat the grill.
  2. Place ground bison in a bowl. Create a hole in the center and add all the ingredients except the feta.
  3. Combine all ingredients together and form 4 inch patties. (Makes about 10)
  4. This step is optional. In the center of each patty, make a thumbprint and add a small piece of feta cheese. Cover it with the rest of the patty so it is not visible to the eye.
  5. Grill the patties until well done. Serve with favorite garnishes.
