Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 1 large red onion (diced)
- 5 cloves of garlic (diced)
- 4-5 lb of boneless leg of lamb (ground)
- 1 handful of fresh mint finely chopped
- 1 handful of fresh oregano finely chopped
- 1 handful of fresh dill finely chopped
- 2 tsp lemon zest (1 medium lemon)
- 1 large egg, slightly beaten
- 2 tsp of sea salt
- 1 cup crumbled feta (optional)
Instructions
- Heat up oil, combine diced onions and garlic and sauté over medium heat.
- Cook until onions and garlic are translucent. Set aside to cool.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground lamb, the cooked onions & garlic, the chopped herbs (mint, oregano, dill) the lemon zest, add salt and pepper to taste, add the egg and mix all ingredients well.
- Form 3 inches in diameter by ¾ of an inch thick patties, and cook in the oven or barbeque.
- This recipe makes about 12 patties.
Notes
If you have a kitchen-aid mixer with the meat grinding attachment, you can grind your own lamb, after you remove all the silver skin and fat like we do.
We also like to make these lam-burgers ahead of time and freeze them.
